On Sunday, September 22, 2024, my short story “Dragon Dash” was published in a short story anthology called Dragon Dreams. The anthology’s editor, Draco Amethystus, a dragonologist, accepted my short story in April. I was delighted to have something of my writing published anywhere.
The short story follows a young woman competing in a dragon race on an alien planet. Flying lizards on this planet are comparable to ancient Earth lore mythical beings. I was inspired by The Dragonriders of Pern novels by Anne McCaffrey, which I’d read as a kid. Fun fact: her novel Dragonsdawn was the second book I bought with my own money. The first was Frank Herbert’s classic Dune.
I am still waiting for a handful of other short stories to be returned to me. They will either need further edits or come with rejection slips. Either way, Draco’s Dragon Dreams does something that no other editor has done yet for me. Made me a fantasy writer.
You can purchase the short story collection on Amazon. It is available on Kindle, as well as on hardcover and paperback.
